I apologize to those followers out there for missing a Cool Paper of the Week....so many great papers to read, so little time!
I chose article 9031 this week as the cool paper of the past few weeks: "3D-specific inhibition of DNA repair-related genes by activated KRAS in colon crypt model"
This group found that the expression of DNA repair-related suppressor genes where suppressed by activated KRAS in HKe3 3D culture but NOT in 2D culture. The ability to suppress these DNA repair-related suppressor genes is crucial in the development of cancer therapies. Clearly the microenvironment of 3D cell culture is more in vivo-like and should be used while developing these therapies!
